This seems to be a common question, so I'll answer it here.
Firstly, KDx is a service, not a product. It fundamentally relies upon technologies that run on this web server, especially for the relay system. If this site goes down, KDx goes with it - that is unavoidable.
Even if you could purchase it, you couldn't download it and keep it forever on your own computer, it just doesn't work like that at all.
Therefore, it makes far more sense to offer it as SaaS (software as a service), such that in the event that for whatever reason the service can't run any more, nobody feels like they have been cheated out of their lifetime license.
To those who are worried that they would somehow lose something if the service disappeared - KDx does not host any of your data, and all it provides is the programmer interface, so if it were to go away, you wouldn't be losing anything in the same way as you would if Gmail or iCloud suddenly ceased to function.
That said, because it doesn't store any data and the vast majority of interaction is client-side, this is a relatively cheap service to host, so i can't envisage any reason why it would cease to exist at any point.
If you object to the subscription model because you might only use it occasionally, purchase a month's subscription when you need to and cancel the renewal immediately. It's a single control available in the same place where you buy the subscription. You will retain use of all the facilities until the next billing date comes around.
